Much happier news to share this week as opposed to last week!
I saw my ophthalmologist yesterday. Inflammation is down! He said my eye is looking quiet, no active inflammation at the moment. I am 5.5 weeks into this flareup.
This is exciting because it means that my inflammation is being kept at bay with the lower prednisone dosage. I started at 80mg/day, down to 60mg/day, and now going to 50mg/day for a week. Then I’ll taper to 40mg/day for a week, and then I’ll see the ophthalmologist again. I’ve been seeing him weekly so I’m a little scared to go 2 weeks without seeing him. On 11/14 I was inflammation free, but we tapered off the prednisone too fast and the inflammation came back full force. Hopefully we are tapering slowly enough this time.
Next week I am seeing a rheumatologist for the first time. I’m anxious for what he’ll say, if he’ll think I need to be on an immunosuppressant.
Nonetheless, this is great news! My vision has not improved and I probably have a cataract. But all I can do is stay positive while my eye calms down, and then address the cataract and vision. One thing at a time.
