It’s been a while!
Uveitis Nowadays
It has been about three months since my last post. A lot has happened, and for a change.. I have good news!
In January I was still recovering from the flareup. It was such a challenging time, I rarely had good things to share. I was in pain, paranoid and worried, my eye was still red, and my vision was extremely distorted. Since then:
- My eye is inflammation free
- My eye is (finally!) pain free
- My eye is no longer red – back to normal!
- The cloudiness has cleared up a ton
So a huge improvement! My vision has cleared up so much that I really don’t notice the cloudiness as much anymore. When I squint my left eye and look through my right eye, I can still tell that it’s there. But with both eyes open, my vision feels pretty normal. Hopefully it just continues to improve.
One interesting and slightly upsetting thing is that my pupil no longer dilates. There is a term for it that I can’t remember, but it looks weird at times. I will take that over the alternatives.
Humira Life
I am also on month 4 of Humira. So far so good! Is it really working yet? I’m not sure, since my last flareup before this was 3 years prior and way milder. But I’m not having any side effects from the Humira (besides getting a cold twice, back to back, when I never get sick) and if it is lowering my chances of having another flareup, I’m ok with staying on it.
The injection is nothing. Most times I don’t feel it, and when I do, it’s a little pinch. It’s super easy, comes in a pen and takes about 10 seconds from start to finish.
Food | Appetite | Weight Loss
I’ve struggled. So badly. With binge eating tendencies and an emotional dependency on food, sticking to any type of “diet” oftentimes feels impossible for me, much less an anti-inflammatory diet. For that reason, I decided to start taking a semaglutide to help control my eating, and finally get down to a healthy weight. (I have had to learn to become comfortable with needles and injections – big strides!)
It’s tough when I have been told by multiple doctors that diet has no direct influence on inflammation. Maybe they meant to say, “diet has no direct influence on whether or not your uveitis flares up.” But in either case, I can’t imagine that eating anti-inflammatory meals can be anything but good.
So with the power of my semaglutide, and my dedication to a healthier way of eating, I am excited to embark on my weight loss journey. I’ve learned that a semaglutide does not fix everything – it is simply a tool. I still have to control my eating and decide what to eat. I still get hungry, and the hunger is worse during my weeks when I overeat (which is hard to do on a semaglutide. Leave it to me to find a way.)
I am going to start sharing my weight loss updates moving forward, as well as keeping tabs on the eye progress. Excited for what’s to come! Epimoni.
